Eating Clay Makes Things Worse on TikTok… Effective Efforts to Curb Its Spread!

Recently, a strange trend has spread on the TikTok platform, where some users, especially teenagers, are eating clay and chalk in front of the camera, claiming that there are health benefits to eating these substances. This behavior is known as “Pica Syndrome,” a disorder that compels people to consume non-food items, which can lead to serious health issues. This “trend” may also aim to attract views and interactions by broadcasting unnatural and bizarre scenes to the audience or even selling the clay for profit!

Negative Effects on Teenagers:

This behavior causes serious health problems, as it can lead to bowel obstruction, heavy metal poisoning, and deficiencies in essential nutrients. Additionally, it can result in the development of unhealthy habits, increasing the risk of eating disorders. Moreover, the psychological and social effects are concerning, as it may promote dangerous social behaviors among teenagers, negatively affecting their mental and social health.

The Role of “INSM” Digital Rights Foundation and Its Cooperation with TikTok: The “ANSM” Digital Rights Foundation has played a vital role in promoting digital awareness and protecting users from harmful online content. Upon identifying this harmful behavior, the foundation collected a number of videos and accounts promoting it and submitted the reports to their partner, TikTok. TikTok responded quickly, deleting harmful content and restricting the accounts that promoted the clay-eating behavior.

Through its activities, “INSM” aims to provide a safe, healthy, and misinformation-free digital environment, striving to reduce content disruption and control it before it negatively impacts users’ realities. Therefore, the foundation continues to follow its approach to achieve its desired goal or at least contribute to reaching it, even partially.

Additionally, “INSM” recently launched, in cooperation with TikTok, the “#Safe_Together” initiative to promote digital awareness and digital media literacy. The initiative targets youth, parents, and educators by guiding and educating them on the proper use of TikTok, making the most of the platform to benefit users, protect their privacy, and ensure their digital security, as well as avoid harmful content.

The “INSM” Digital Rights Foundation encourages you to contact and collaborate to monitor and stop harmful and policy-violating content across various social media platforms. You can send links to INSM email at report@insm-iq.org, or via WhatsApp at +9647835882244.
